Marcus Bender, the founder of KAI Spirits, launched Kai Vodka 80 Proof and Kai Lychee Vodka 70 Proof in 2007. The name KAI has positive connotations throughout Asia-Pacific, the brand’s birthplace. In 2011, KAI launched four new products, including two shochus/sojus. Shochu (Japanese term), or Soju (Korean term), is the number one consumed spirit in the world. Quickly winning recognition with Double Gold Medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the brand extension paid further homage to the flavors of South East Asia and the Pacific Rim. A father-daughter business, owned and operated in Honolulu, HI, KAI’s production actually takes place in Vietnam where its rice base is grown. The Vietnam team may as well be ‘ohana (family) – they have been an integral part of KAI’s success. A truly multinational experience, KAI continues its journey with fruit-forward Vodka Sodas. The team sends its gratitude to all who choose to “taste the pleasure” with KAI.
